Boy have I been frustrated with the apps, plugins and services that power my WordPress sites that can’t work together — especially when just a few key integrations would solve important, but niche, needs for my business?

Sadly though, the best I could do, until now was to spend hundreds of dollars a year, for another 3rd party tool, that gets some of my WordPress tools interacting with each other…but, I didn't!!

There are very few small businesses that could afford spending such cash to gain automations that we hoped would already be part of our website’s DNA!

Now this is where Thrive Automator came in...

It's the automation plugin from Thrive Themes that allows me to build workflows that pass data between the different apps, plugins and services (including your email marketing tool) that run my business websites.

Thrive Automator actually resides inside WordPress, meaning it can see what’s happening website-wide — instantly. This gives me the power to trigger automations, such as, when users log in, fill out a form, finish a quiz, or complete specific lessons in my online courses (to name just  a few possibilities)…

The list of available actions and triggers is also constantly growing!

The goal of Thrive Automator is to give us a central hub where we can not only set up automated tasks and workflows between different Thrive Suite plugins, but with our favorite third-party tools also!

This also means that Thrive Automator provides us with a gateway for outside developers to integrate their tools to work directly with Thrive Suite — creating an open Thrive Themes ecosystem!

But as the launch version of Thrive Automator is a public beta ( Thrive Suite customers only), the current automations focus is on expanding functionality between Thrive Suite plugins as well as with our favorite email marketing service.

Open Thrive Automator's Dashboard

Firstly, open the Thrive Automator dashboard (in the backend area of your WordPress site) and click on the “+ Add New” button this will start creating new automations:

Next, select from the growing list of visitor, subscriber, student and customer based behavioral "Triggers" to begin your automations.

Now that you’ve selected a trigger, you’ll need to apply a "Filter" so your automation is carried out with surgical precision. 

For example, if you select one of the Thrive Apprentice course triggers, you can use the filter step to focus which course (or courses) your automation must be applied to. Note that the list of available filters you'll see in this step will change depending on which trigger you selected in the previous step.

Here’s a few examples of how filters can be used to make your automations incredibly granular:

When a student enrolls in a course, add an email tag, BUT IT IS ONLY for courses from a specific teacher.

When a visitor submits a form, add them to an email marketing service, BUT IT IS ONLY for forms embedded on a specific page AND that contain a telephone number.

When a visitor completes a quiz, give them access to a specific Thrive Apprentice Course, BUT IT IS ONLY IF the quiz result is above 80%.

But sometimes it's important that certain steps in your automations don't happen instantaneously — and that’s why Thrive Automator was built with powerful "Delay" options. 

Assign delays (specified in minutes, hours, days, weeks, months or even years!) to have each of your action steps fire exactly when you want them to.

And if you need to add multiple actions to a single automation, you're free to mix and match your trigger timing as necessary. Set up one action to fire immediately with the next action firing after a delay. Whatever you need!

The last part of setting up any automation in Thrive Automator is to pick an "Action" from our growing list of available options.

Like the filter step, these actions will dynamically change depending on your chosen trigger. New actions are being added to Thrive Automator all the time!

Thrive Automator was built from the ground zero up, to be developer-friendly and cultivate a continually growing ecosystem of 3rd party integrations. As a matter of fact, we wrote the code base to be readable and human — along with very easy-to-follow developer documentation.

If you know of a developer that creates WordPress plugins or off-site software, invite them to get involved all they have to do is join our developers community, read our developer documentation, and integrate with our API. It's simple!
